Planning a visit to Jagannath Temple
The spiritual centre of Puri, and the reason most visitors come to the city at all. The temple sits in the heart of town a short walk from the Grand Road, so it slots easily into a morning before the heat builds. Plan around the queue rather than the clock — darshan runs well over an hour on busy days, and festival weeks are longer still.

Entry to the temple is permitted for Hindus only. Other visitors can see the complex from the Raghunandan Library rooftop opposite the Lion’s Gate.
